MISSION 

Peguis First Nation Training & Employment (PFNTE) aims to assist unemployed or underemployed band members (on and off reserve) to gain skills, and training that leads to long term employment. Target clientele includes unemployed adults and youth. 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE 

To provide resources that address labour market challenges and barriers. Relevant training and employment programs and services are offered to the Peguis Band Members regardless of residency, within Canada.  This is accomplished through a range of partnerships with various government departments and the private sector.

 

SERVICES: 

  • Sponsorship: Sponsorship is available for two types of training: 

- Vocational (off reserve)

- Community-Based Training (on reserve/in community)

      • Funding is available to clients to access public or select registered private sector programs that are one year or less in length.
      • This sponsorship cover costs such as tuition, books, living expenses, and other necessary fees for eligible clients.
      • All applications must be submitted will all required documentation and be in contact with PFNTE staff at least 60 days before the program start date. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Employed applicants are ineligible.
  • Employment Assistance: This financial assistance is offered to clients who are entering the workforce and need assistance making the transition into a new employment opportunity. 

§  The client may be eligible for support in purchasing safety equipment, work clothing, footwear, travel expenses, and/or other related needs.

§  Confirmation of employment must be provided to be eligible. Set rates established are based on type of employment. Applications must be submitted within 2 weeks of starting new employment.

  • Apprenticeship and Industry Training
  • Local Labour Market Partnerships
  • Employment Insurance (EI) Benefits services and information

PROGRAMS: 

  • Youth Work Experience Program – 6 months duration, 18-30 years of age 

  • Work and Wellness Program – 12-week duration, 31+ years of age 

  • Summer Work Experience Program15-30 years of age (High School/Post Secondary) 

 

EMPLOYER PROGRAMS:

  • Job Creation Partnership Program: This financial assistance program is designed to help unemployed individuals gain work experience by creating temporary job opportunities. The project activities should benefit both the participants and the community and must involve partnerships with public sector and non-profit employers only, excluding private companies. This approach also aims to enhance the clients' long-term employment prospects.
  • Wage Subsidy Program: This financial assistance program aims to motivate employers to hire individuals to provide them with direct work experience and on-the-job training. The employer receives a wage subsidy for hiring the client for a designated period, with the goal of equipping the client with the skills needed to secure employment either with the same employer or elsewhere after the subsidy period ends.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Peguis Band MemberUnemployed
  • Underemployed (i.e. Part-time, Casual, Entry level positions)
  • Background Checks (including Child/Adult Abuse Registry Checks and Criminal Records Checks) for employment applications
  • Fully complete application

COMMUNITY COMPUTER RESOURCE CENTRE (CCRC):

Available to all community members to access:

  • Computers, Print, Scan
  • Resume/cover letter templates (a copy can be saved internally for future access)
  • In-person workshops: Resume, Cover Letter, Interview Skills, Budgeting
  • Assistance with Employment Insurance (EI) applications
  • Computer access to do EI reporting online
  • Service Canada (SIN/OAS/EI) monthly onsite visitsResource Material
